Two good tools. How we help you pick the right one.

IV sedation and general anaesthesia both let anxious patients get dental work done comfortably. They’re different tools for different jobs, and we’d rather you choose well than choose us.

IV (twilight) sedation — what we do

You’re deeply relaxed and mostly unaware, but breathing for yourself — no breathing tube. It’s done in your own dentist’s chair, with no hospital admission and no facility fees, and recovery is quick — about 30 minutes of supervised rest, then home the same day. Best suited to most routine and moderate dental work: fillings, extractions, implants, wisdom teeth, and appointments up to about 2.5 hours.

General anaesthesia — sometimes the better call

You’re fully unconscious with your airway managed by a specialist anaesthetist, usually in hospital. It’s the right choice for some situations: very long full-mouth procedures, certain airway or medical histories, patients who can’t tolerate any awareness, and some patients with special needs. It costs more and recovery takes longer.

Our promise

Every QDS booking starts with a medical review before anything is confirmed. If your history or your treatment plan tells us general anaesthesia is the safer option, we’ll say so and help your dentist arrange it. Sedation done well includes knowing when not to sedate.
